Well I was very happy when I asked for a menu in this place because Hayes Valley was most definitely in need of a sushi restaurant. Then I looked at the prices and I wasn't quite as happy. But since apparently I seem to need sushi on a regular basis, I tried them out.

Their fish is outstanding. I had Saba and man, I tasted more flavors in that sushi than I ever have before with saba. So, yes, more expensive, but really good. They have a really good, small assortment of nigiri, stuff that the sushi boat places I frequent never have. Buri - older yellow tail, incredible. INcredible. The menu listed3 different maguros, striped jack, amberjack, icefish, other ones I can't remember, and some of the usual offerings.

They have a list of seven to 10 sakes to choose from; the one I ordered was served lightly chilled. I don't know if they warm up any of their sakes. It was a terrific sake - I think it was the "Happy Place" or something like that ($7 / glass - the cheapest glass. They did have a bottle for $20.) It was very cool to drink a good sake and get nuanced flavors from a chilled sake.

The service was very friendly, and the sushi chefs are good-looking. (Unfortunately I didn't notice that until I was leaving.) The decor is nice, soothing colors, good lighted wall treatment, and the floor has been refinished and is beautiful. The furniture seemed rather Ikea-goes-to-Japan, but what the heck. For sushi lovers who aren't afraid of a $5 to $8 nigiri, you gotta try this place. If you're in the neighborhood and all.
