Hi, I am new to the Hayes Valley tribe but have lived here for almost a year now. What I am wondering is if anyone else has heard gunshots for the past few nights? Does anyone have any info on this?

Re: gunshots?
Wed, August 16, 2006 - 3:23 PMHaven't heard any lately, but they're not unusual. HV is The Hood after all, with housing projects just a few blocks away. According to SFgate there was a gun battle on Turk St. a few nights ago, and last night there was a shooting in the same location that left one man dead and a woman in the hospital. Not exactly HV, but a mere few blocks away.
Most likely gangs/drugs. Pretty regular stuff around these parts, I'm afraid.
SFPD's website has a link to the Northern Police Station, which puts out downloadable .pdf's of the week's police reports. You'd be amazed by all the crazy stuff happening right outside your front door.
Welcome to the neighborhood! -

Re: gunshots?
Fri, August 18, 2006 - 11:02 AMthe projects on Page and Haight streets have recently become a bit wilder. They used to be very strict about drug use and vandalism around there, but I see open drug use and drug dealing going on there lately. Last week in broad daylight I saw kids that live in the project tearing the gutters down off their own buildings. Their mother yelled at them to stop and then went back into the house.
as I was walking down the street yesterday afternoon a few people that lived there had lawn chairs on the sidewalk and were openly smoking pot and what appeared to be crack..........

Re: gunshots?
Mon, September 18, 2006 - 8:44 PMI've noticed a more frequent police presence around there the last few weeks. Hopefully that will curtail that kind of stuff.

Re: gunshots?
Tue, December 19, 2006 - 5:08 PMHV is the "hood"? No, it's not, really.
Maybe I'm reading too much into your post, but it seems to me your attitude is sort of laissez-faire. If enought people around here had that attitude, then yes, HV could become the hood. Luckily, at least on my street, we give a shit (many of us, anyway) about our neighborhood. -

Re: gunshots?
Tue, December 19, 2006 - 5:23 PMbefore many of us moved to San Francisco Hayes Valley was one of the 'hoods. It was dangerous to be on the sidewalk during the day at times. -

Re: gunshots?
Sun, December 24, 2006 - 6:31 PMwhomever thinks there is a laissez faire attitude.........................I assure you there is not.
The hoodlums San Francisco have imported into the projects are watched by most of my neighbors. There is a theoretical zero tolerance for lawlessness and drug abuse............but that is falling by the wayside. I have talked to the city attorney several times and they actually have an attitude that they wish you wouldn't call them.
We shall remain vigilant.
If the san francisco supes really wanted to have legalized marijuana then they should damn well enforce laws against the illegal dealers and associated crime. Instead they adopt a laissez faire attitude towards both. I have spoken with Mirkarimi about this and he agrees that if we are to have legalized drugs then we should theoretically be without the illegal dealers and associated violence and petty crime/assault. But as usual the board of Supervisors are weak and without the backbone to do the right thing.
